If they can do the work themselves they can save a lot of money. The kid who bought my old 86 turbo with a bent frame thought he got a great deal. The car ran fine but the frame was all bent up from hitting a curb and it needed body work. But his dad worked at a frame and body shop, so that type of work was free for him. Given a spare weekend and they'll have the car straightened up for nothing. But I agree with what you're saying for the most part, if this dude is expecting to buy a car that needs work and he's going to pay someone else to fix it, he's going to lose money.
